Love: A Poem

Yes, this is cheesy, but it is a happy spring poem

Love, to love is to trust
He says trust me
Then he cheats
Rat bastard

Love, to love is to believe
He says believe me
Then he lies
Rat bastard

Love, they say to love is to not fear
But the more you love the more you fear
Trust is diminished
Absent

Love, nonexistent invisible man
Shakespeare writes about it
They say it’s God
More like Satan

Love, intermingles with lies
Intermingled with sex
Molitov Cocktail
Explodes in beauty or bloody pain

However

Love does exist
Whether it is two lovers holding hands
On a beach
Or walking down the street

Love does exist
Whether it is a parent or a child
On a beach
Or walking down the street laughing

Love does exist
Whether it is two friends
Sharing a hug during a hard time
Or laughing about a secret

Love does exist
Whether it is grandparent and grandchild
Grandparent covertly slipping forbidden candy
Or grandchild spending a fun filled, butterfly chasing summer afternoon with grandparent laughing

Love does exist
Whether it is one of the majority
Treating an outcast
With dignity.

Fear is stronger than love
There are those who believe
Fear trumps love
But they are foolish

Love breeds kindness
Love breeds respect
Love breeds honesty
Love breeds more love

Love brings peace
Ends violence
Ends torture, famine and war
Love, not weapons or blood, conquers all.
